It’s surprising to see how monochromatic these images are with their snow and rock. Pick up a piece of the local shale and it will appear reddish, but submerge it into scenes like these and the color gives way to the residual foliage that appears here and there. Being at the falls comes across as a much more colorful experience than the photos would indicate. The day was overcast and the better for it. Otherwise the rather unified effect, as I see it, would perhaps been broken by too much light and shadow.
