Mist rolls over what had been brightness,
barely any light left at the horizon,
not much light left over the land,
Is that what is happening to us?

Birgit,
I love this kind of photo, even made a few in Newfoundland. The blue with faint pink is terrific. But couldn’t this be dawn as well as sunset? Or the goal we’re heading for rather than a last glimpse of what’s lost? The ambiguity keeps us from falling into what could become a sentimental cliché.
Thanks, Steve,
It was early afternoon with a sunny blue sky when the weather suddenly changed on us – like a biblical scourge.
Birgit:
Shown as it happened. People go to great lengths to obtain those atmospherics through manipulations of various kinds, and you pulled it off by being there and recognizing a good shot. The second image is especially satisfying.
On an unrelated note, I know that you are awaiting a discourse from me on the subject of Rudolph Steiner. I don’t know if I can produce same as he appears to be very vague about art. Maybe I’m reading the wrong material.
My first attempt at an allegory failed. On a nonpolitical blog, after Friday night’s experience, I tried to express my anxiety about the great American Dream.
Birgit,
I knew what you meant, though as devil’s advocate I had to confuse the issue. I do think there is too much ambiguity to make a strong point. Since you present a sequence, it’s quite possible to suggest a fearful direction (assuming that’s what you want) more strongly, but I think the degree of successive darkening should be greater. And maybe a shift from blue towards black. Also, the last image seems to contradict that direction, as it gives us the best view of the land, the implied destination or safe haven, as well as the broadest expanse of brighter water on the way.
Steve, the last image does provide a shimmer of hope.
I love the third image as it reminds me so much of being out here in the West and being able to see great storms and wondering if the rain is really hitting the ground. I enjoy the colors and the composition of this one.
