Tic Tac Toe was a mess. This 40″ by 56″ foam painting was colorful, but wrongly so. The smiley faces were in yellow, the mugs in violet and the grid in a mixture of the two colors, all set upon a motley background pretending to whiteness. With nothing to lose I blanked out the ground and blackened the figures. Most of the distractions are gone, allowing the basic question to be asked.
Also, as a follow-up to a recent post, I tried to “NEWS” -ify the four cardinal letters, but the effect was problematic. So I followed the original plan with this result. The object is made of expanded pvc, glued together and painted.
I have no idea what to call this object. Any ideas?
You may see NEWS, but I see SEWN UP.
Steve:
That made me laugh. Actually, I was thinking of hanging the thing 90% from present, and still could. But why?
“You may see NEWS, but I see SEWN UP.”
Steve, be careful, you’ll end up being a songwriter :-)
Good pieces, Jay!
David:
Thanks.
Not having played tic-tac-toe as a child, I understand from this picture what the object is. The scrunched-up face is great.
It looks like “Pick a Direction” to me.
Jan:
Now that’s a potential title. Could also be “Pick A Point”, as in the points of the compass.
Sewn Up is great! Exactly.
We stitchers “pick” stitches, too, which ain’t fun but has it’s own point.
And the tic-tac-toe is Warhol, updated. Maybe you need to call it OMG, too, just to keep your characters current.
June:
Howdy. Actually, the circular painting looks better when rotated some 90%. But that’s a quibble. Actually, that’s not Warhol, but rather an old image of myself – not so much a current character.
David:
How much does the printer charge to digitally print your panels?
Well, I knew that was you! yeesh, I have a bad memory, but not that bad.
But weren’t you Warhol in a former life? I’m thinking of silk screened Marilyns and the like. You’ve just upped the ante.
