Lovely – it reminds me of childhood days in Georgia where peaches grow abundantly.
A challenge to the viewer!
Both detailed and abstract, hard and soft, vanishing into the background and dominating the foreground, light and shadow, perfection and tear, one and split into two.
Amazing in symbolism and craft.
And so yummy! I love that little green leaf behind the juicy peach.
Mmmmhhhhhhhhh Hanneke your work always gives me salivating, that is what I love the most about it!
Sensual juicy, you sure know how to pick and paint your subjects.
Dear Hanneke,
This is quite possibly your most beautiful work yet. I do believe you have broken away from the pure tradition of your genre now and truly speak with your own voice. The way the corner of the table floats out of darkness edge on is nothing less than thrilling. I love the imaginary worlds that live in the shadows, and your peaches?
Well, I think if Eve had seen one of these it would have been a peach, not an apple.
Gorgeous.
The table makes a nice tactile contrast: it looks hard and the peaches look soft in just the right way.
Just as in recent posts from Angela and Tree, the balance between symmetry and asymmetry is one of the pleasing and intriguing aspects of this work.
Speaking of artist’s web sites and blogs, it appears there is an increasing amount of sales being driven from blogs. Here’s an article from USA Weekend; can’t remember how I got there.
Even if I had very little time to sit back and comment, I had to stop by and comment on this painting. Masterful and controlled. I loved it. Paintings have the power to move and I believe in it.
It would have been great if you could have written a bit about how you achieved the degree of translucency on the country wooden table…
Thank you for posting.

yum!
I will forever be a fan of your work. Your gift never ceases to amaze me when you share;) the subtle colors you use that you somehow manage to make vibrant are always a treasure!
Thanks for your wonderfull comments.
Actually the wooden table is a stone ledge ,like they used in paintings in the old days.
I started the painting winter 2006 when I bought the last peaches at the shop downstairs at our appartment building.I made a promise to myself : when the peaches are ripe in summer I am going to finish this painting in an amazing way ,just so that you just want to eat them rightaway .
I had to buy several times new ones and took out the best of them and added that to my magic couple .
The painting needs some retouching varnish that is why the background is a bit weird
peachy ….
I keep returning to have just a look again at the peaches,,,
