It was ten below when I got up this morning – definitely to be an indoor day.
I recently came upon one of those recession – related phenomena: an entire display of expensive and unsold ornaments, going for pennies on the dollar. The quality of the ornaments was unbelievable and I entered into a feeding frenzy.
This afternoon I began to disassemble the tree and had the new ornaments carefully grouped and ready for packing. There was something about the ornaments as they were caught in the winter sun that had me reaching for the camera.
I must admit that these images remind me a little of the paintings by Janet Fish that we discussed, and of a certain Dutch feel in the light.
Do they remind you of anything else?
Sumptuous! I love the rain bow colors within the reflections.
Something in the elegance, intricacy, delicacy, and monotone makes me think of Arthur Rackham. (I’m always happy to be reminded of Arthur Rackham, it’s never a long trip.)
There’s also a suggestion of “under the sea” — I think it’s the bubbles, waves, and swirls.
Melanie:
Would seem we both love association. Your mention of bubbles, waves and swirls puts me in mind of Davy Jones and his locker as he and it appear in one of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
Thanks for mentioning Arthur Rackham. I knew him not, but now must know him better. In a related vein I’m reminded of Richard Dadd, and his Fairy Feller’s Master Stroke. May be that fairies live in those ornaments.
Birgit:
I know whereof you speak and agree.
Jay,
Yes, I was instantly reminded of Janet Fish’s reflective surfaces (I thought for an instant that this was a Birgit post), and also I was taken by the bits of color that show up in your collage collections. The color is so subtle and elegant that it captures me again and again.
June:
Thank the ornament people who did a first class job.
