While you’re running with the wolf, your impressive hair is flying with the raven. This is another side of the inner you, reflected out to your surroundings. We saw a different side with the butterflies at Easter. Not necessarily stronger, but definitely active rather than contemplative. You and your companions seem to be of one mind and to know exactly where you’re going.
The landscape is very like Montana, and your animals, of course, are powerful Native American symbols; they remind me of the ones painted by my friend, DG House. Yours look more determined, but not unfriendly.
Birgit the pointing finger upwards, symbolizes Oneness, one source that binds everything together and is part of all.
Steve yes the three beings are all One, and also answered in the above lines to Birgit. The Raven is the Spirit guide, the wolf is higher protection, and the woman is the human with the intention. All co-running to achieve one goal of running free in this life!
One of the things that I notice about the running woman is that her feet are touching the edges of the picture plane. She is running free while remaining in contact with the physical, if not the spiritual, boundaries of her world. This works in my worldview as I see freedom as involving the gracious acceptance of limits and responsibilities, whether shouldered or imposed. The woman springs from the earth, finding joy in her response to the burden of gravity.
You touched on something her feet are touching the edges of the picture plane that I am not fully comfortable with, presumably because of ‘what I bring to the picture’.
The ‘touching of the feet to the picture edge’ makes me feel that I am looking at a stage set, the actor running across the front of the stage while the landscape could be a painted background.
Perhaps my walking on the dike and looking into the distance of a bay in the North Sea conditioned me to expect the ‘action’ to be more diagonally expressed, here and here .
I recently saw the Francis Bacon’s at the Met, he understood the value of a good frame.
This is a nicely composed painting, freeing up the edge contacts would change its feeling. Both Jay and Birgit touch on the different possibilities.
The interface between the visionary world of the painter and the perceived world of the viewer IS the painting — Space or no space, it’s an object. You can’t reach your hand through its surface and part of its believability relies on this fact.
On the axis between the representational and the symbolic, the observed and the imagined, Angela’s paintings lie closer to the symbolic. The structuring of a symbolic world is different from the acquired structures of a representational painting. In the symbolic world, images can exist along the conceptual-emotional axis in a way which one cannot easily find in the natural world.
So in some ways, the potential of Angela’s visionary world might expand by finding an intuitive approach for arranging the symbolic within a structure similar to the stage set Birgit mentioned. What occurs in an imaginary world is occurring in the stage set of the mind, it’s not really there like that, but we suspend disbelief and accept it as true
Among the high profile painters Neo Rauch has used a “stage set space” with great effectiveness. Just focus on his organization of space, in many cases it’s really a quite clever solution to arranging the images and maintaining a believable logic to the space they are contained in.
Finally, I suspect that seeing the image cropped in a jpeg is quite different from seeing the actual canvas, which is an object with depth, shadows and parallax. I also think the painting deserves a good frame.
George you so good! It is almost like dissecting my brain’s creation… even I am learning about the painting like a 3rd person. Symbolic is a word I hear very often by the way.
Birgit yes interesting I’ve never realized about your angles you paint, quite true diagonally. When I looked at Perturbation and most paintings in general the first reaction I have is emotional. I was captivated by your lines and colours that made it so dreamy and appealing.
Perhaps there are other ways of looking at paintings, and the rapport of the individual to a piece is perceived as with their relationship to their own work.
As a Native American and someone training for her first Marathon, I completely fell in LOVE with this! I have saved it as my wallpaper on my laptop and plan to use it as both inspiration and motivation during my training! I also plan to purchase a poster :) This truly touched my heart, Thank You!
My boyfriend sent this to me saying it reminded him of me- and I love it! As a falconer, runner, and outdoorsman, it represents so well who I am, so thanks:)
Ces I cannot see why not, use it as much as you want as long you give credits to the artist who have work hard on it. I recommend to put a link to the website http://www.magicpaintings.com because this way you will be helping the arts to continue its magic. Thank you.
Tonight I was looking for art to illustrate a poem I wrote, found this through a search and immediately added it, giving credit of course. Thanks for the fantastic painting. What energy! Posted at my own and another blog.
Angela,
That is fantastic! I would love to sprint along accompanied by a wolf and raven.
I am glad that you gave us the magnified image. The colors are great. What is the symbolism for her finger pointing up?

I’m taken by this painting.

I will play with those impressions.

George,
Thanks for telling me about Neo Rauch. I am looking forward to seeing his painting in real life.
