The foreground twigs are a web cast upon the ice.
A wall was built to stem the outrageous erosion.
Objects will skitter musically across the frozen pond – but not on this day.
The falls in the background spring from the rock.

I enjoy the black and white of the winter colors offset by the brown-reddish color of foliage in your photos, in Steve’s Montana picture and here in the Sleeping Bear Dunes where I am rejuvenating this week.

It’s surprising to see how monochromatic these images are with their snow and rock. Pick up a piece of the local shale and it will appear reddish, but submerge it into scenes like these and the color gives way to the residual foliage that appears here and there. Being at the falls comes across as a much more colorful experience than the photos would indicate. The day was overcast and the better for it. Otherwise the rather unified effect, as I see it, would perhaps been broken by too much light and shadow.
